he portraits on the following pages are the result of a photography workshop given by photographer Eric Gottesman to Shanti clients at Shanti's drop-in center. Clients were taught the basics of portrait photography and acted as assistants to Mr. Gottesman as he photographed each of them and other interested clients.
In all, more than 50 portraits were taken. This gallery presents just a small sampling of this remarkable expression of human dignity.
For this project, clients were invited to write down some thoughts to accompany their photos. Most of them responded, and their quotes are included next to their portraits.
