Title:                Program Manager
Department:      LifeLines Breast Cancer Program
Reports To:      Executive Director
Status:              Full-Time, Exempt
__________________________________________________________________________________

Shanti is seeking a full-time Program Director to administer the LifeLines Breast Cancer Program. LifeLines is a program at Shanti, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life, improving the well-being, and promoting the independence of low-income and underserved women and men with breast cancer.

Primary Duties

 Leadership and Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provide leadership, supervision and direction to 6-8 staff members and interns who support approximately 300 women with breast cancer annually.
  • Select, train, and provide development opportunities, performance appraisal and counseling to managers.
  • Provide guidance to managers in supervising their staff as well as final approval on development opportunities and performance appraisals.
  • Participate in Shanti’s Directors Team.

 

Program Design, Implementation, and Evaluation

  • Strategically design program goals and objectives with time specific output and outcome measures with achievable deliverables. 
  • Maintain and build upon current services to enhance services to women and men with breast cancer.
  • Evaluate program outreach and services through existing quantitative and qualitative measurement tools.
  • Partner with research institutions to evaluate services, quality of life, and health status of clients.

 

Development Oversight

  • Build and maintain relationships with government organizations, funding agencies, and individual donors.
  • In collaboration with Shanti staff, maintain grants calendar and write proposals, with the goal of bringing in $550,000 a year.
  • Manage multiple grants and city contracts with SF DPH and the Mayor’s Office.  
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, negotiate contract deliverables and financials with the city.
  • Monitor and report on benchmarks, deliverables, and successes of the program through monthly reports, annual evaluations, and site-visits.

 

Fiscal Management

  • In collaboration with the Executive Team and Board, develop an annual strategic program budget.
  • Maintain financial compliance of all grants and contracts.
  • Track and monitor program budget through monthly variance reports, in collaboration with Shanti fiscal staff.
  • Provide program managers with timely budgetary information that relates to their projects.

 

Community and National Outreach

  • Direct outreach initiatives including community events, in-services, collateral development and dissemination, as well as online presence.
  • Build and maintain formal collaborations with social service agencies and hospitals to increase effective service delivery and avoid service duplication.
  • Participate in community collaborative breast cancer organizations.
  • Prepare and submit abstracts and manuscripts for publication and conferences.
  • Present program results at local and national conferences, the SF Health Commission, award ceremonies, staff meetings, and quarterly Advisory Group meetings.

 

Secondary Duties

  • Receive, manage, and resolve client grievances and complaints.
  • Participate in agency fundraising  and volunteer training activities.
  • Participate in agency functions and meetings as appropriate.
  • Consults with agency staff from other departments as needed to ensure quality services for client caseload.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Requirements

  • MA/MS in health services, anthropology, social work, public administration,  public policy or related field;
  • Two to three years experience managing a direct services program;
  • Experience in grant writing and grants management
  • Some experience preferred in behavioral health or mind-body medicine;
  • Excellent presentation and writing skills;
  • Prefer some experience working with women living with breast cancer;
  • Sensitive to the diversity of San Francisco’s communities, including but not limited to issues of homelessness, sexual orientation, gender, language, spirituality and culture.
