t the Shanti trainings, former volunteers often mention that though our clients may forget to thank us, we will feel compelled to thank them. The first time Billy asked me to massage his feet in order to relieve the pain of his neuropathy, I understood what the trainers had repeated so often. I felt empowered in knowing that such a small effort on my part could brighten Billy's day and grateful that he had nurtured in mewithout realizing itthe practical and emotional skills necessary in healing. The bond I have formed with Billy, with whom I have little in common, and might not have ever met otherwise, serves as a reminder not to judge others. Billy has helped me to become a more politically active citizen and a more nurturing caretaker.
