| SNTI's Origins
The development of the Shanti National Training Institute has grown out of the knowledge that the Shanti Model of Peer Support has relevance and applicability for a wide range of populations.
The theoretical framework for the Shanti Model of Volunteer Training, Management and Retention draws upon a number of disciplines, and is directly informed by our 30 years of agency experience in training and managing volunteers. At its most basic level, the Shanti model is based on the principles of non-directive peer counseling. Dr. Charles Garfield adapted these principles to meet the emotional and practical support needs of persons coping with life-threatening illnesses and other disabling conditions.
