Community Support

The Community Support Program uses the many areas of expertise that Shanti posesses to promote our mission of community building.

Whereas the Shanti National Training Institute specifically assists organizations in the areas of staff and volunteer training, the Community Support Program also offers ongoing administrative, clerical, and logistics support; quality assurance; contract compliance assurance; research and development; and strategic planning, as well as identifying and providing needed trainings to community-based organizations across the United States.

For more information about Shanti's Community Support Program, please contact Kevin Burns, Executive Director, at (415) 674-4756.

CASE STUDY

The San Francisco HIV Health Services Planning Council is the community planning body mandated by federal legislation to oversee the allocation of approximately $33 million in Ryan White CARE Act Funds for the San Francisco Eligible Metropolitan Area. The Planning Council is responsible for understanding the scope and nature of HIV/AIDS within the area, the existing services available for people with HIV/AIDS, the gaps in services, and the prioritization of federal funds to fill those gaps.

Through a contract with the San Francisco Department of Public Health, Shanti's Community Support Program is providing administrative, logistical, and finance/accounting support that the Planning Council (comprised of 40 volunteers) requires. It also is identifying appropriate training needs which the Shanti National Training Institute will provide.
