Shanti is one of the most respected providers of volunteer training and support programs in the United States and abroad. In the San Francisco Bay Area alone, we have trained more than 13,000 volunteers who together have provided more than three million hours of emotional and practical assistance to persons with life-threatening or disabling conditions. The Shanti Model of Peer Support has been successfully adapted internationally in such culturally diverse locations as France, Mexico, Austria, and Germany. Representatives from other countries such as Italy, Holland, England, Thailand, and Japan have come to San Francisco for training in the Shanti model. Organizations bearing the Shanti name are also active in Seattle, WA; Phoenix, AZ; Los Angeles and Laguna Beach, CA; Juneau, AK; and Brussels and Brugge, Belgium.
 
As Shanti's methods and successes grew, so too did the number of requests from other organizations for our help. Realizing that our decades of work and the ongoing "living laboratory" of our programs made us a uniquely qualified resource for other organizations, in 1998 the Shanti National Training Institute (SNTI) was born.
 
Since that time, SNTI has aided thousands of organizations across the country with a wide range of issues pertaining to volunteer training, management, and retention. More recently, SNTI has developed and implemented an extensive training program for HIV Peer Educators across California and is also central to the development of Shanti's new Community Support Program.
