Melissa joined Shanti in the fall of 2017 and has 25 years of experience working in the nonprofit sector for social justice organizations. As a Development Studies major at UC Berkeley, Melissa began her work in the nonprofit sector designing out-of-school time educational programming for children and youth living in the Bay Area’s least resourced neighborhoods. Through this opportunity, she first witnessed the critical and powerful role participant-centered programming, grounded in allyship, empathy, and humility, can have in leveling socioeconomic and educational disparities. Melissa leverages her strategic planning, professional development, and program evaluation expertise to support Shanti’s dynamic program directors to ensure our program staff are equipped to provide our clients with high quality, impactful compassionate care.
