Group volunteering provides a wonderful way to promote team-building, support your local community, and have a good time!

We love hosting corporate and philanthropic volunteer groups! Depending on the size of your group, desired schedule, and strengths, you can contribute in many ways to Shanti’s mission of improving the lives of San Francisans as they face life’s most difficult challenges.

Client Dog Wash

As of July 2021, our group dog washes are paused due to COVID. We hope to resume them as soon as it so safer for our staff and clients to do so. We will update this page when we are offering this exciting opportunity once again.
Groups of 6-10 people can support Shanti and our PAWS Program by volunteering at our ever popular client dog washes. Many of our clients have difficulty bathing their furry friends due to physical or resource limitations. By assisting us with dog washing you will meet our clients, boost your endorphins, and love up on some sweet pups! If interested, please contact Anna Weitzman, Volunteer Program Coordinator at for more information.

Stocking Delivery Prep

Every holiday season, Pets Are Wonderful Support (PAWS) delivers hundreds of holiday gift bags filled with donated pet treats and toys to our clients and their pets throughout SF! It’s a yearly highlight for our community. Our clients and their beloved pets look forward to this event each year. Groups are welcome to volunteer to help with stocking delivery prep-work including stuffing bags, sorting and itemizing materials, and of course by donating any supplies that are needed for our stockings! If interested, please contact Anna Weitzman, Volunteer Program Coordinator at for more information.

Special Events

Shanti typically hosts two events annually—Petchitecture, San Francisco oldest gala for both humans and canines, to benefit the PAWS Program, and Compassion is Universal, our agency-wide gala. Petchitecture and Compassion is Universal take place in the spring and autumn, respectively. These events require a great deal of physical labor to pull off, and we find that groups who plan ahead to assist us with these high-stakes events typically offer us the most benefit for their time. Volunteer teams can contribute to our setup and breakdown, or assist us during the events with greeting guests, registration, silent auction and many other tasks that come up. We should note that any groups wishing to attend an event could still assist during setup if you so choose. If interested, please contact  Scarlett Chidgey, Director of Development, at for more information.

Propose Your Own

Due to resource limitations and the generosity of regular administrative volunteers, we are often unable to provide groups with enough work to fill a normal shift. However, we are open to suggestions! If you have a project idea, please contact Anna Weitzman, at, and we will work with you to try and find a solution that makes sense for your team, our clients, and Shanti staff. Past groups have hosted fundraisers, organized pet food and clothing drives, and created client care packages.
