Women’s Cancer Program

WOMEN’S CANCER PROGRAM CLIENT SERVICES

We offer the following services for clients in our Margot Murphy Women’s Cancer Program.

Care Navigation

Care Navigation includes individualized case management utilizing a cultural and linguistic humility lens; care advocacy; interpretation services; information about and assistance with applying for safety net resources (e.g. emergency funds for rent/utilities and food); transportation assistance to medical appointments (taxi vouchers); and appointment accompaniment. Throughout Care Navigation, staff members offer intensive emotional and practical support. If desired, clients can be matched with a Peer Support Volunteer. We serve clients from initial diagnosis of cancer through active treatment and for a period following the end of active treatment. We provide assistance for women who are receiving palliative care and confronting end-of-life issues.

Health, Wellness, and Survivorship Activities

Our Health, Wellness, and Survivorship Activities are designed to moderate side effects, reduce recurrence, support healthy lifestyles, advance self-advocacy, and provide opportunities for social support with a community of women facing similar challenges. Activities are generally held at Shanti’s offices or other venues conveniently located near public transportation, with taxi vouchers also provided to encourage attendance. Activities are provided in two cycles per year and usually include support groups; nutritional classes; educational workshops (e.g. economic and legal rights); complementary therapies (acupuncture, massage, and Reiki), fitness and body-image activities (walking groups, yoga, and exercise counseling); and music and art therapy (painting, knitting, jewelry-making). Many activities are offered in multiple languages (English, Spanish, and Chinese).
